Just the titles or the slogans on the tshirts make me laugh. “Baptist Can’t Dance”, ” I’m just here for the pot luck”, and my favorite “Trust Me, I’m the Sound Guy.” All the tshirts at Ziz Clothing make me laugh. Trust me there are not a lot of funny Christian tshirt sites, I mean ones that will really make you think and laugh, but the folks at Ziz have or are making it happen. Let’s face it, there are a lot of sites on the web that are laughing AT Christians, but Ziz is turning that around because there are a lot of funny things that happen at church. They have another shirt called “Trust me, I’m an usher”. It made me think of my days as a young boy in church watching these guys we call ushers. I thought, man, now there is the job to have. Always walking around during the sermon, get to take up all that money … and where do they take it? The shirt just makes me think.

All in all you can’t go wrong with checking out their website … it’s pretty cool too especially the YouTube videos that accompany the products … there are funny as well. If you have some time, you should go and check them out. They print on quality American Apparel tshirts and offer free shipping. They also give away free American Apparel shirts on Wednesdays if you are a facebook fan. Thanks Ziz Clothing!!

This is a totally new market idea … tshirts made by Christians. There are tons of Christian Tshirt websites … but founder and CEO Wayne Gooden wanted to take it in a little different direction. “Christians wear more than just tshirts with Christian type graphics … there are bikers, cheerleaders, farmers, …. all types of Christians who have a lot of different interests”. Plus Gooden was tired of not seeing any funny Christian or Church tshirts that were not slamming the church … so, he decided to do something about it. Thus … Tuna Tees. Sure, most of the designs stem from activities that he and his family are involved in … but that makes it more relevant. Gooden’s Baptist roots pokes fun at things that most Baptist would get … and very few others would like … “I brought Potato Salad to Covered Dish” or the “Can’t Dance Baptist” tshirt. Hope you will take some time and drop by Tuna Tees.

By Al Millergren

1. Cookout for city sanitation workers.

Have you ever noticed those guys who ride around and pick up the trash on your curb? Have you ever thought they may not feel appreciated? In most cities the sanitation workers meet a couple of times a week for lunch in the area they’re working. Call the city and ask where the sanitation workers in your area meet and on what days. Once you have this information, get your group together and plan a cookout for the workers. Make invitations and deliver them a week in advance. Go ahead and ask if they will come. Chances are good they won’t turn down a free meal. When they arrive at the cookout, seat them, serve them, and clean up after them. The only thing they have to do is show up, eat, and be honored.

2. Bake and take.

Meet at the church building or a home and bake a large batch of cookies. Have the teens do all the cooking, packaging and cleaning. When the cookies are ready take them to area nursing homes, or to the nurse stations at the hospitals. Try to arrange with the hospital to come at a shift change so the nurses leaving can take some cookies home, and those who are coming on can start their shift on a positive note.

3. Clean houses.

Teens do not have the reputation for keeping their rooms neat. Blow your congregation away by offering their house cleaning services. Designate a Saturday and ask your church members to sign up a week in advance to have their house cleaned. Provide the service free of charge, but humbly accept any donations to add to the youth fund.

4. Repair a home.

Here is a big project that will require more than just you and the teens. Ask for some contractors in your congregation to lend a hand. There is probably someone in your church that needs some repair work done to their home. If not, call the city and ask about anyone who has called asking for assistance in this area. If that fails, call Habitat for Humanity to learn about getting involved in their program.

5. Rake and run.

Load your teens up in the fall armed with rakes and trash bags. Go to church members homes who have lots of trees and rake their yards. Don’t tell them you’re coming, just show up and get to work. Make a contest of it each year and see how many yards you can do in a day.

6. Free car wash.

The morning of your car wash have teens go door to door in your churches’ neighborhood handing out free car wash tickets. When the people come have the teens wash and rinse without fee or donation. Say, “Our only charge is that you would be our guest at our worship services at some point.” Hand them a card from the church stating service times and tell them to have a great day.

7. Volunteer workday.

Schools and civic organization are always in need of volunteers. Contact the area schools and find out what day they work on their grounds. Show up and help them pick up trash, weed flowerbeds, etc.

Another way to help your community is by volunteering to serve in a soup kitchen. If your town furnishes meals for the needy in your community, call and designate a day when your group would be available to serve.

8. Senior Saints fruit baskets.

The seniors of your congregation have paved the way for others to enjoy freedom in Christ. Honor them by having the teens make fruit baskets and homemade cards, and delivering them to the homes of your seniors. Tell them personally how much you appreciate everything they have done through the years to make your church what it is.

9. Canned food drive.

During the months of September and October, place a large box in your youth room to collect canned goods. Challenge the teens to bring them every Sunday morning during those months so you will be able to help needy families have a good Thanksgiving and Christmas. To make it more personal, adopt a specific family to help. Take their picture and place it on the box so teens will know their work will help someone they know. When the time comes to deliver the food, ask for several teens to help. They will get to meet the family, or families, that received the blessing of your group.

10. Rummage sale.

Yard and garage sales are more popular than ever. If people think they will get a deal, they’ll get up at 3 a.m. and park in front of a house until the sale begins (I’m not kidding).

Use your church parking lot to have a huge sale. Ask members a month in advance to donate worthy items, and to bring them the day of the sale to the church. To help in the cause, select a charity that all proceeds will be donated to. People will respond to need.

Put these 10 ideas into play and see the difference they make in your youth ministry.

Al Millergren is the co-founder of Teen Life Ministries a youth ministry resource site. Teen Life’s free weekly tips reach over 35,000 youth workers.

Viola. SoundMeter, an app that will give you that info.

from this article.

Description

SoundMeter turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a handheld sound level meter (SLM). The iPhone’s built-in and headset microphones are suitable for basic sound level measurements, but high precision external microphones may also be used.

NOTE: SoundMeter 1.5 is now compatible with the all versions of the iPod touch. To use SoundMeter with the iPod touch, an external microphone is required. On the original iPod touch, an accessory must be attached to the dock connector, which either offers its own microphone or line input. The newer iPod touch also enables input through the headset connector. The default headset microphone sensitivity is set for a standard iPhone headset microphone or the new Apple headphones with remote and mic.

Due to sample rate limitations and frequency response degradation, SoundMeter is not recommended for use with the built-in microphone of first-generation iPhones. SoundMeter will still work with the original iPhone, but when working with the built-in microphone, frequency weighting will be disabled, and the measurement accuracy may be significantly impaired. Using SoundMeter with the iPhone’s included headset microphone, or with the built-in microphone of the iPhone 3G, is recommended.

Even though default sensitivity values are included for the iPhone’s built-in and headset microphones, for best results, SoundMeter should be calibrated before use. Sound levels may be off by a few dB when using the default microphone sensitivity.

Vector. Thank you. Sometimes folks just do not here us when we tell them that we MUST have their files in a vector format without receiving art charges. Photoshop looks cool for the web … but building something for the speed of the web … is not what screen printers want. Yes, we can take a raster image … jpg or png, etc … and make it printable .. but sometimes that may take 15 minutes to an hour of re-draw time. Do it right the first time … Vector. You can find over 1000 other designs at our flickr site. Here. Youthgrouptshirts.com is Christian owned and operated business and ministry. We specialize in screen printing to churches, youth group, children’s ministries, and daycare’s. Youthgrouptshirt’s parent company also provides Christian tshirts for the retail market and will have a new web store active before the end of the 2010.

According to a new survey by app developer textPlus, which surveyed more than 600 of its users aged 13 to 17, texting is more rampant than ever in the classroom. A whopping 42.5% of teens admit to texting during class, and more than half of those say they text sometimes or constantly. What’s more, nearly 80% of students say they’ve never gotten in trouble for texting during class, suggesting the eyes-down, cell-under-the-desk method is slipping past even your most yard-stick taunting school teachers.

Part of the problem is that kids don’t feel guilty for their actions. Roughly 74% of students don’t believe it’s wrong to text during school time, a mindset which permeates not just learning but homework too: About one in three teens admit to using text lingo (e.g. “u” or “4″ or “imho”) in written school assignments. How do we change this? Perhaps we start with the parents: A shocking 66% of teens report that they’ve received texts from their parents, even when their parents know they’re in class.

Monkey see, monkey do.
